Odoo Financial Reports: Complete Guide for Better Financial Visibility

Every financial decision your business makes depends on the accuracy and clarity of your financial data. Odoo's built-in financial reporting module gives you real-time visibility into profit, cash flow, expenses, and tax obligations. You can never find a single accounting platform that gives you all these Odoo reporting features. Let's show you in detail the major Odoo financial reports, what they are, what they tell you, how to read them correctly, and how to use each one to make the right decisions.

What Are Odoo Financial Reports?

A financial report is a document that is used to show the financial condition of organizations to management, investors, and the government.

Odoo Financial Reports are automated accounting statements generated within Odoo's Accounting & Finance module. They get live data from your chart of accounts, journal entries, invoices, and bank feeds to produce the Profit & Loss Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement, General Ledger, Tax Report, Aged Receivables, and Aged Payables.

It gives finance teams a complete and real-time overview of business health, so there’s no need for manual data entry or spreadsheet work. It is available in Odoo 16, 17, and 18.

Each financial transaction is stored in Odoo as a journal entry. Whenever you generate a report, Odoo reads those entries, filters the date, account type, company, and analytic dimension, and provides output in a structured and readable format.

Why Financial Visibility Matters More Than Ever

The majority of finance leaders prefer real-time visibility into their financial performance. Still, some businesses rely on monthly close reports that are 2-4 weeks old by the time they reach decision makers. This outdated information causes missed cash flow problems, inaccurate tax filings, slow audit cycles, and an inability to compare the actual performance.

Odoo eliminates these risks by keeping financial reports always available and always up to date. It helps to solve the problems by answering questions like:

  • Are we actually profitable this month?
  • Which expenses are eating into margins?
  • How much cash do we really have available?
  • Are customers paying on time?
  • Can we afford to scale right now?

Let’s see how to extract maximum value from it.

Profit & Loss Statement (P&L)

The P&L report or income statement shows your revenues, cost of goods sold, and operating expenses during a specific period of time. It answers the more frequent question: Is your business profitable? It tells you:

  • Total revenue generated in a given period
  • Gross profit after deducting the cost of sales
  • Net profit after all operating expenses
  • Department or product-level profitability (with analytic accounting)

If you want to compare the growth results of the current year over the past year, you can use the Odoo comparison feature to run P&L side-by-side for two periods.

Balance Sheet

The Balance Sheet provides information about your company's financial position at a specific point in time, including assets, liabilities, and equity.

It covers three major components:

  • Assets: What your business owns, including cash, inventory, receivables, and fixed assets
  • Liabilities: What your business owes, including loans, payables, and deferred revenue
  • Equity: The residual interest, including retained earnings and share capital

Accounting Equation: Assets = Liabilities + Equity

Most of the lenders and investors review the balance sheet to assess solvency. In Odoo, you can generate it for any date with a single click.

Cash Flow Statement

Profit on paper doesn't always mean cash in hand. The Cash Flow Statement is a summary of the budget that shows money flowing in and out across three activities:

  • Operating Activities: Cash from core business operations
  • Investing Activities: Cash used in buying/selling assets
  • Financing Activities: Cash from loans, equity, or dividends

Odoo auto-generates this report from your journal entries. You don't need any manual mapping when your chart of accounts is correctly configured.

Tax Report

Odoo's Tax Report consolidates all tax-related transactions into a structured and period-based summary that aligns with your country's VAT or GST return requirements. It includes VAT collected, input tax credits, and net tax payable, grouped by tax code.

It can be exported directly to submit to tax authorities. Some of the major benefits of Tax reports include:

  • Eliminates manual tax calculation errors
  • Supports multi-tax and multi-jurisdiction setups
  • Exportable to PDF or Excel for auditor submission

Odoo ships with country-specific tax report templates for 80+ countries through its Fiscal Localisation Packages, including the UK, EU countries, USA, Australia/New Zealand, the Middle East, Pakistan, India, Kenya, and South Africa.

General Ledger

The General Ledger is the master record of every financial transaction posted in Odoo. It contains every invoice posted, every payment matched, every bank statement imported, every payroll entry processed; all of it is here.

You can use the general ledger during audits, reconciliation, and detailed transaction-level investigations. You can filter by account, date range, journal, or analytic account.

Aged Receivables & Aged Payables

These two reports track outstanding invoices and bills grouped by aging buckets, including 0–30, 31–60, 61–90, and 90+ days.

Aged Receivables:

Identifies customers with overdue payments so your AR team can prioritize follow-ups and reduce Days Sales Outstanding (DSO).

Aged Payables:

Shows which supplier invoices are due soon or overdue, helping you avoid late payment penalties and manage working capital.

Executive Report

Odoo 17 introduced a Financial Overview dashboard within the Accounting module home screen. This gives CFOs and business owners a one-page summary of:

  • Current bank balances across all connected bank accounts
  • Unpaid customer invoices and draft invoices are pending
  • Unpaid vendor bills and bills to be approved
  • Overdue amounts on both receivables and payables
  • Upcoming bills and invoices due within the next 7 days

It is the first screen your finance team sees each morning.
