FAQ

No. Odoo Online (*.odoo.com) doesn’t allow third-party apps. Odoo Dashboards runs on Odoo.sh and on self-hosted Odoo, Community or Enterprise. See Install the app.

None beyond Odoo’s base. It works with whatever you have installed (Sales, Accounting, Inventory, Point of Sale, CRM, custom modules), because a dataset can be built on any model.

Your records stay in your database. To build each widget’s query, your Odoo server sends the Odoo Dashboards service a description of it (dataset, columns, aggregation, filter values) and gets SQL back, which runs on your own server. The AI features send more, and only for users you allow. See Your data stays in your Odoo and What is sent to the AI service.

No. Dashboards read datasets straight from the database, so record rules and multi-company restrictions don’t limit the numbers. Anyone who can open a dashboard sees every row its datasets contain. Records opened through a drilldown do follow record rules. See How it fits together and Sharing and access.

How do I restrict a user to their own data?

Section titled “How do I restrict a user to their own data?”

There is no automatic “my records only” filter. The usual set-up:

  1. Give each widget a fixed filter line (one with Show in Dashboard unticked) on the salesperson, team, branch or company.
  2. Build one dashboard per person or team, each with its own filter value.
  3. Share each dashboard only with its owner, through Dashboard Settings → Add Users or Add Groups.

To stop builders from using some datasets at all, limit their data sources with an AI policy. See Sharing and access.

Users with the Dashboard Builder (SAAS) right build dashboards; Dataset Builder (SAAS) adds datasets. Viewers need neither right, only a place on the dashboard’s access list. See Install the app.

Work through these in order:

  • In the builder: the preview is off until you click Turn on preview, and it shows the saved settings, so click Save & Preview first. Almost there lists the settings that are still missing.
  • The dates: a date filter or the header Date Filter may exclude everything. Try a wider range.
  • Fixed filters: a filter line with a value that matches nothing (a typo, a status code like sale versus its label) empties the widget. Check the Filters tab and the dataset’s Where Clause column.
  • An error: a widget whose query fails shows a warning triangle with the message instead of the data.
  • A table that shows No data available ran fine but found no rows.

See Widget filters.

Why don’t the numbers match Odoo’s own reports?

Section titled “Why don’t the numbers match Odoo’s own reports?”

Usually one of these:

  • Tax. amount_total includes tax, amount_untaxed doesn’t. Odoo’s Sales Analysis report shows untaxed amounts.
  • Statuses. A dataset includes every record unless you filter it: quotations, cancelled orders, draft invoices. Odoo’s reports count only some states.
  • Companies. Datasets read all companies at once; Odoo reports follow the companies you have selected.
  • Time zone. Date-and-time fields are shown in Asia/Riyadh time (UTC+3), so an order near midnight can land on a different day than in Odoo.
  • Rounding. Tiles and charts show whole numbers.
  • Freshness. With optimization or stored results, the first load can be up to one refresh interval old. The Refresh button in the dashboard header fetches live data.

A global filter is active and that widget has no filter line linked to it, so the filter can’t narrow it. Link one of its filter lines in Global Filters, or leave it if the widget shouldn’t follow that filter. See Global filters.

Not directly. Use a table with date tokens: Compare with the previous period.

  • Tables and Matrix Reports: Export → Export as Excel (.csv) or Export as PDF.
  • Charts: Save as Image in the chart’s toolbar, or Data View to copy the numbers.
  • A whole dashboard: Present (slideshow) → Download as PDF, one page per widget.
  • A dataset’s rows: Export CSV in the Dataset Builder.

See Viewer toolbar and Layout and presenting.

Section titled “Can I e-mail a dashboard on a schedule or share a public link?”

No. Dashboards open inside Odoo for users on their access list. Download the slideshow PDF to send a snapshot.

The app’s interface is in English and French, following each user’s Odoo language. Your own dashboard names, widget titles, tooltips and table headers can be translated into every language installed in Odoo. See Translations.

Each widget is its own query, so speed depends on the data each one reads. For large data:

  • Keep datasets narrow: only the columns you use, and a Where Clause that drops rows you never report on.
  • Turn on Store Results for heavy datasets, so widgets read a stored copy refreshed on a schedule. Filters still apply. See Stored results.
  • Turn on Enable Optimization for dashboards that are mostly opened without filters. See Optimization.
  • Prefer a few dense tables over dozens of tiles on the same heavy data.
  • Leave Apply Contextual Filters off unless the filter list really must narrow by the other filters: it’s slower.

Numbers are fetched when the dashboard opens and kept in the browser for five minutes. Refresh in the header fetches everything again. Tiles with Auto Update re-fetch every few minutes on their own.

Yes, in Odoo’s mobile browser view. Below about 1,000 pixels wide the widgets stack in one column; there is no separate phone layout.
