Glossary

The words the app and these docs use, in alphabetical order. Labels in bold are exactly as they appear on screen.

Access group: The Odoo group each dashboard gets when it’s created. Its members see the dashboard in the Odoo Dashboards menu. You fill it through Add Users in Dashboard Settings. See Sharing and access.

Aggregation: How values are combined: sum, average, count, minimum, maximum. Tiles and charts call it Value Type; matrix measures and table columns have their own settings. See Widgets overview.

AI Analytics (SAAS): The access right that unlocks the AI features. See AI overview.

AI policy: A rule an administrator sets in AI Governance that caps a user’s AI credits, the data sources they may use and what they may do to dashboards. See Governance and credits.

Alias: The name of a column. In a dataset it’s the column name widgets see (order_date); in a table it’s the header viewers read (Order Date). See Create a dataset and Tables overview.

Analytics item: The builder’s name for a widget. See Widget.

Analyst: The Ask AI about this data chat on a dashboard, which answers questions by running queries on the dashboard’s datasets. See Analyst.

As At Date: A date filter option: picking one date shows everything from the beginning up to that date. See Date filters.

Column Settings: The window behind a table column’s gear, with the tabs General, Format, Aggregation, Appearance and Rules. See Column formats.

Conditional formatting: Rules that colour a cell or a whole row when its value matches, set on a column’s Rules tab. See Conditional formatting.

Custom field: A calculated column built with Custom… in a field list: arithmetic, a condition, a format, or combined text. It belongs to the widget, not the dataset. See Custom fields.

Custom SQL dataset: A dataset written as a SQL query instead of picked from a model. See Custom SQL.

Dashboard: A page of widgets on a grid, with its own menu entry, filters and access list. See How it fits together.

Dashboard Builder: Where you create dashboards and set up their widgets: Odoo Dashboards → Configurations → Dashboard Builder. See A tour of the app.

Data Source: The dataset, or joined datasets, a widget reads. See Joins and unions.

Dataset: A table of data built from one Odoo model (or SQL), with the fields you picked as columns. Every widget reads from a dataset. See Datasets overview.

Dataset Builder: Where you create and edit model datasets: Odoo Dashboards → Configurations → Dataset Builder. See Create a dataset.

Date Filter: The date range picker in a dashboard’s header, turned on with Enable Global Date Range Filter. It drives the first shown date filter of every widget. See Date filters.

Date token: {{date_from:<key>}} or {{date_to:<key>}} in a table column, replaced by the dates picked on one date filter. See Compare with the previous period.

Default layout: The arrangement every user starts from, published with Set my layout as default. See Layout and presenting.

Default value: The value a filter applies before anyone picks one, and goes back to when cleared. See Filter values.

Dimension: The field a chart groups by, such as month or customer: the category axis. Heatmaps call it Date Field and maps Category Field. See Bar, line and area charts.

Drilldown: Clicking a number to open the Odoo records behind it. Set under Drilldown Options. See Drilldown.

DSB / DTS: The back-office lists of all dashboards (DSB) and datasets (DTS), under Configurations → Advanced Configuration.

Filter key: The hidden identifier of a widget filter line that date tokens refer to, such as fkq7m2xa.

Filter line: One condition on a widget’s Filters tab: a column, an operation and a value. It is either fixed (always applied, invisible) or shown to viewers. See Widget filters.

Global filter: A filter in the dashboard header that drives filter lines you pick on several widgets. Widgets without a linked line show Not filtered. See Global filters.

Group By: In the builder, how a table’s rows are summarised in SQL. In the viewer’s toolbar, grouping of the loaded rows into expandable groups. See Grouping.

Join / Union: Combining several datasets for one widget: a join matches rows side by side, a union stacks them. See Joins and unions.

Live Preview: The panel beside a widget’s settings that renders its saved version. It’s off until you click Turn on preview. See A tour of the app.

Matrix Report: A server-side pivot: row dimensions, one column field split into periods or values, and one or more measures. See Matrix Report.

Measure: The numeric field a widget adds up or averages, such as the order total. See Widgets overview.

Operation: The comparison a filter line uses: Is equal to, Is in list, Is between, This month and so on. See Operators.

Optimization: A dashboard setting that pre-computes each widget’s unfiltered result on a schedule, so the first load is fast. Any filter change queries live data. See Optimization.

Pivot Table: The older, browser-side pivot that viewers can rearrange. The Matrix Report replaces it for new work. See Pivot Table.

Range Mode: A date filter option: a from–to range picker instead of a single date. See Date filters.

Record button: An entry in another model’s Action menu (for example on a customer) that opens a dashboard filtered on that record. See Record buttons.

Refine with AI: A chat on a saved widget that proposes changes and applies them only when you click Apply changes. See Refine with AI.

Row actions: Buttons that run an Odoo method (such as confirming orders) on the records behind selected table rows. See Row actions.

Rows per group: Limit Rows Per and Max Rows Per Group: keep the first N rows of each group. See Rows per group.

Show in Dashboard: The filter-line option that turns a fixed condition into a control viewers can change. See Widget filters.

Sticky Note: A free-text widget, editable on the dashboard. See Sticky notes.

Stored results: A dataset setting that keeps a stored copy of the dataset’s rows, rebuilt on a schedule, so heavy datasets load fast. Filters still apply. See Stored results.

Strictly Follow Operator: A date filter option that sends the picked dates through the line’s own operation instead of a plain “between”. See Date filters.

Target plan: Planned numbers per period, optionally per team or branch, compared with actuals in a table. See Targets and Sales vs target.

Tile: A widget that shows one number, with optional goal and progress bars. See Tiles.

Totals row: The row under a table’s header that sums (or averages, counts…) each column, turned on with Show Totals. See Totals and % of group.

Value source: The widget filter line whose values fill a global filter’s list. See Global filters.

Value Type: The aggregation of a tile, chart, heatmap or map: Sum, Average, Minimum Value, Maximum Value or Count. See Tiles.

Visualization Type: What a widget is: Tile, Sticky Note, Vertical Bar, Horizontal Bar, Line Chart, Area Chart, Doughnut, Funnel, Heatmap, Map, Table, Pivot Table or Matrix Report. See Widgets overview.

Where Clause: A permanent filter on a dataset column. Every widget on the dataset sees only the matching rows. See Create a dataset.

Widget: One tile, chart, table or note on a dashboard, answering one question about a dataset. See Widgets overview.
